My Daybook, Entry #47

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Tuesday, Nov 9, 2010...

Outside my window... Cloudy, wet, windy! I like a little wind here and there!!

I am thinking... how antibiotics are soooo lovely* for infants - what with the copious amounts of diarrhea that is caused. We have tried many kinds of diaper cream; desitin creamy, burt's bees, bordeaux's butt paste, magic diaper cream, vaseline, an off-label item. ALL to no avail. What has worked so far? Johnson's Lavender and Chamomile baby powder has done the most good. Of course things are still a little red and sore, but it is better by far.

I am thankful for... electricity most of the time. The power has gone out (4:58 PM) as my noodles WERE on the ELECTRIC stove boiling, and I am working on battery reserve. Hope the power comes back on soon!

From the learning rooms... "learning" to be without power proved to be challenging. I called the power company at 8:15 PM. They said that it wouldn't be on until after 10 PM and the agent on the phone didn't sound very hopeful. I am finishing today's post in a hotel. With four kids. And a dog. And NO dad, how sad. He is off in a hotel in Kansas somewhere... Maybe we are all TOO dependent on electricity, eh? No heat or dinner on a cold night after 5 PM these days without electricity!

From the kitchen...

Tues: Power is out... we ate... at a restaurant
Wed: Leftovers
Thurs: Breakfast
Fri: Steaks
Sat: Pizza
Sun: Roast
Mon: Spaghetti

I am creating... this post. I think that is enough for now!

I am going... to be happy to be in our home tomorrow with the power on!!

I am reading... I have several titles on my counter. At home.

I am hoping... that this is a one time event!!

I am hearing... Kids jockying for position in front of the TV, Baby fussing about the drawer not opening, dog barking in the next room over... not sounds of home!

Around the house... it is DARK and COLD there, when I picked up jammies and toothbrushes at 8:30 PM!!

One of my favorite things... *sarcasm. Lovin' the use of sarcasm, right now!

A few plans for the rest of the week... up in the air a little bit, here. Planning to finish our school week on a bang instead of a fizzle! An at home week if it is up to me!!

A picture thought I am sharing...

When Pops took Bud & Branch hunting back in early October, Blossom and I (and Bump, too) had a lovely late night candle light dinner on fancy tablecloth and dinnerware. She LOVED it and felt so special having a BIG night with mom. I can't get over how LITTLE she looks sitting down at the end of the table! {Going without power is "quaint" when you do it as a choice and prepared all of the meal with electricity and just turned it off to eat!!}

To read more daybooks or to join in the fun, head over to Peggy's.

  2. Your whole post made me smile! It is very frustrating when the power goes out unexpectedly. I enjoyed your post very much and your humor too. The candlelit dinner pictures were just beautiful! Way to create a special memore despite your frustrations:) Have a blessed week!
