Craft Basket Wednesday: Prizes for those winners from a million years ago!!

Photobucket

Well, it has been a LONG time since I have put any craftiness up here! How about I show you what I sent to my Aunt Stephanie and my friend Regina when they won my silly contest a while back...

Both gals have four-legged friends in their homes, so I sent them each a placemat for their dog bowls to comfortably rest!!

Photobucket

Isn't this fabric SO cute?!?!!

Photobucket

For my aunt, who enjoys gardening and likes to putter in her kitchen (with those cute colored rubber gloves with the neat detailed edges on the arms!) I sent an apron in Americana colors - in plenty of time for Fourth of July!

Photobucket

and for my good friend, Regina, I made a cute little (about a 6 inch cube) fabric block made from an old quilt...

Photobucket

"HUH?!?!" you say.

Well, my mom sent me a link to another blog with this cute project to do with wood and paper. Well, I had a lack of this kind of scrap wood... plenty of paper and fabric, though! So, I thought it was a FUN and cute idea and my friend, Regina, has a spectacular sense of humor! (and, some time back she had this thing on her blog about making sure to exercise more and all that get healthy jazz - that I need to be thinking about more, but I digress.) So, I recreated this craft project with fabric and a bit of iron-on transfer paper. Here's the other side of the block...

Photobucket

The font is a little hard to read on this photo. Just in case you cannot read it, here's what it says:
1. Place block on the floor.
2. Walk in a circle around the block, then repeat.
3. Sit down.
4. Relax.

You just walked around the block twice!!
I got such a giggle out of this funny craft! I need to make one for my house to use at Thanksgiving and other times when I seem to over indulge and don't have it in me to take a real walk!

Anyway, I hope the girls enjoyed their goofy prizes!!

Go visit Amy and see what/if she or anyone else is crafting these days!

My Daybook, Entry #36

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Tuesday, June 29, 2010...

Outside my window... Overcast and a chilly 59 degrees

I am thinking... that I have been home for about six days and this is the first time I have had enough time to start in on writing? Well, there was laundry, unpacking, a baby, more laundry, a HUGE box of curriculum arrived, that baby, even more laundry, etc... Arriving home deserves a vacation all on its own!!

I am thankful for... being able to have my kids home with me to see them grow and learn every day - not just through the summer or on holiday "breaks"

From the learning rooms... July 1st is the beginning of our new year... I am feverishly putting the final touches on my plans for this next quarter - I am out of breath in trying to get this done for Thursday!!

From the kitchen... my "big meal" plans
Tues: Baseball Potluck... I'm bringing Mac -n- Cheese (just the ugly box kind that is a sure thing for my kids to eat ~SOMETHING~) and a pan of Tiger Brownies
Wed: Sloppy Joes
Thurs: Spaghetti
Fri: Beef Pot Roast
Sat: Bud has requested homemade "Runzas"
Sun: a meal with friends (what to bring, what to bring!?!?!!)
Mon: Chicken something
I am wearing... comfy knit pants and t-shirt

I am creating... homeschool lesson plans and this blog post (finally, right??!!)

I am going... every direction all at the same time. Sound chaotic? It is!!

I am reading... curriculum - lots and lots of it!!

I am hoping... we have more fun this year with our homeschooling adventure this year.

I am hearing... Blossom crunching on a rice cake for snack, Bump fussing in Bud's arms, Branch singing in her room as she decides what to wear tonight for the potluck!

Around the house... remnants abound that show we recently returned from a long trip and aren't quite back to normal!

One of my favorite things... Home, my very own home sweet home

A few plans for the rest of the week... Baseball potluck tonight, Bump's vaccinations :( tomorrow, start back to school, library time, 4th of July parade, 4th of July picnic - OH, dear!! This week isn't the calm week I was hoping for... maybe we'll slow down in mid-July!

Here is a picture thought I am sharing...

The longest run-on sentence ever...

Happy 1st Day of Summer!!!

We are STILL "on the road" for our trip... We have raced along I-80 to hit a family wedding in Grand Island Nebraska (stopping overnight to see Uncle Ikey and Aunt Weeeeeesah's new house... so spacious!!), visited with very dear friends, attended a polka dance where "Grandpa Tractor" played his tuba, toured the new addition and remodel at Grandma D's place (yes, it is Grandpa's, too... but it is REALLY Grandma's I suspect!!), visited the Great-Grands at their homes, played at the Lincoln Children's Museum with some great friends, cruised across Iowa on I-80 to Illinois where we stood as dwarves next to Pop Pop's tomato plants (the secret: threaten them to grow or they will get ripped out of the earth. I am certain that they would grow even better with a more gentle hand!), explored Geemah's (same story here... I imagine it is "Geemah's"!!) new bathroom remodel, we ran into town to see Aunt JoJo's new living room furniture, we ran back across Iowa and stayed in a small town in north central Nebraska with Uncle Arty, headed out to Rapid City, SD to stay and play at "WaTiki" water park resort for a night (experienced a NASTY storm where we had to pull over on the side of the interstate and wait for the golf-ball and quarter-sized hail to pass over before continuing on - hail is much louder in a car than in a safe and cozy home!), finally - today, we busted our hump across north eastern Wyoming and up to Billings, MT and across on the interstate and have holed up in some "Fork" town in south central Montana. WHEW!

We are having fun, but are tired and really ready to find our home!!! Traveling with an infant is "interesting" and I think I enjoy being at home, better!! We hope to be home... soon! I don't know how many more days it will be before we get there, our traveling didn't go as smoothly today as it did in the earlier days!! Soon, my own bed and kitchen... and toys and books for the kids!!

We've taken a few pictures, but not near as many as on previous trips - I will get to those later, after we settle into our routine at home!! Hope that your summer has started off with a big bang, too!

OH, DEAR... WHAT COULD THE MATTER BE?

Nothing "much," really! Just that busy week I mentioned last Tuesday & the beginning of this week being just as busy as last week!! OH! And, did I mention a couple weeks of busy travel coming up that I am feverishly preparing for amidst the "busy"??!

Please plan to hear from me VERY sporadically in the month of June. I will have internet off and on... so, we'll see how this all goes!!!

My Daybook, Entry #35

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY
Tuesday, June 1, 2010...

Outside my window... Overcast with some bits starting to clear off. The forecast says 64 and partly sunny! (Then rain the rest of the week?!?!)

I am thinking... about "Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit!" This is a phrase some friends and I used to say to each other (a long time ago) on the first day of the month. BUT - for the life of me, I cannot remember where it came from, what it was supposed to mean or anything! Does anyone have any information to help me through this memory loss??

I am thankful for... electric clothes washing & drying machines. Who will be the inventor of the electric clothes folding machine?

From the learning rooms... ON BREAK!! We are done with Pre-K, 1st & 2nd Grades!!! But, I am rethinking all of my plans for the coming year. Math, I am settled on Teaching Textbooks and the big kids' stuff arrived a while back for that. But, the rest of the subjects... I am re-evaluating and considering putting my own plan together and I am sort of excited about that! We'll see how it goes, anyway!

From the kitchen... my "big meal" plans
Tues: Chicken Stir-Fry
Wed: Hamburgers
Thurs: Spaghetti
Fri: Chicken Scampi
Sat: Potluck Feast
Sun: Roast
Mon: "Kitchen Sink" Chili
I am wearing... right now?? I still have my nightgown on. It is super-duper soft!!

I am creating... PRIZES!!!!!!!!! And, I hope to sew myself a skirt - I am creating and re-creating it in my head.

I am going... to take the kids on a "playdate" this afternoon.

I am reading... Rainbow Resource Center's Homeschool Supplies Catalog

I am hoping... Pops has a good couple of days while working in Southern Cal. (and hurries home!!)

I am hearing... Blossom crunching on her cold cereal breakfast and singing her made up songs, while Bud and Branch are stirring up their concoction of vinegar, salt and dirty pennies - Shiny pennies are desirable! Bump is laying across my lap, sucking on his bottom lip, cooing, humming and attacking my left hand, while I type with my right hand. Bark is snoring on the couch beside me. It is a busy day already!!!

Around the house... a newly rearranged loft!

One of my favorite things... Ingenuity - especially on the part of the treekids!

A few plans for the rest of the week... Baseball games tonight and tomorrow, library time, playdate this afternoon, Bud's Blue Knights Family Feast on Saturday, the girls' Little Flowers Tea on Sunday (if we can work it in!), a possible trip to the coast on Thursday/Friday - OH, MY!! This week makes me exhausted just looking at all the running...
