Helping Grandpa

All of the treekids love to take a turn helping grandpa with farm chores. But, they all like to do it by themselves, so - each morning a different big treekid goes with Grandpa off to feed cows, pick eggs, count cows, etc. Bump has been missing out on all that fun (he would be oh so much fun after about 10 minutes of being gone, but I digress...) with Grandpa, but enjoys going outside and seeing the cows that are near the house.

Last night, Grandpa had to put a new big round bale of hay in the pen with the mama cows and their little baby bull calves. So, Bump went out for seeing the cows... and getting in the tractor!

He would have preferred that I ride along... not stand outside the tractor taking pictures!

But, Grandpa moved the tractor out of the shed and things started looking up...

They drove around to the backside of the shed and Bump could see the cows while grandpa worked on getting the hay bales!

They drove back around to the other side of the fence and Bump came out of the tractor for the next bit. We stood and watched Grandpa lower the hay into the pen...

Photobucket
Well, he tried to anyway! That hungry mama thought the fresh hay was so appealing she went after it right away... no need to set it up in the pen!
Photobucket
Grandpa had to get out of the tractor to shoo her away since the other day he trapped one in the pen with the hay bale! I was just hootin' over that cow messing up the quick drop!!
Photobucket
After she got out of the way, back 'er in and drop the hay!
Photobucket
But, there she was, again! Waiting right there on the side to get some tasty vittles!
Photobucket
Close up the feed pen even while those mamas were trying to eat some good fresh hay!
Photobucket
Three of the baby bull calves were chasing around, head butting each other, and apparently playing king of the hill!
Photobucket
Bump loved watching the calves! I could imagine him right out there with them... he is big into "running" these days. His running is a bit awkward - but it cracks us up as he swings his arms to go fast!!
Photobucket
He LOVE love LOVES the cows and when he is crying... just ask if he wants to see the cows and all the crying noise stops and he starts to make his version of cow noises! Off to the window we go or out the door to see the cows.
Photobucket
Oh my, I bet this one will surely be a ball player who owns a cattle ranch!! Big predictions for such an early age, eh!?!!
Photobucket
Alllll day we could stand there watching the cows. Calling to them. Wishing they would come closer to pat and perhaps hug and kiss!
Photobucket
Grandpa finished with the feeding in the pen and said he could get back in the tractor with him. Bump happily went into Grandpas arms. Grandpa took four steps away from me - toward the tractor and gate to the cows. He turned west toward the tractor. Four steps to the tractor and the shocked Bump began howling.
Photobucket
I am fairly certain that he thought he was going IN the pen with Grandpa and the cows. NOT that noisy ol' tractor!!!
Photobucket
Bump was a much happier rancher on the ground - near the cows ... He is gonna have to learn about moving hay and all that in a tractor. I suppose he has a few years yet to learn!
