Were You Ready

for some football this past Saturday morning?

Photobucket

We started our beautiful day with our great College Football Saturday Tradition!!!

Pops was happy to break in his new charcoal grill for our College Game Day Brats!

Aren't you ready to join in the fun??

Small tabletop charcoal grills and assorted gas grills are on sale now, at the "end" of grilling season. It is never the end of grilling season for us. But as for the grilling wimps, they are winding down and the stores are marking down their wares.

Brats for breakfast... OH, the breakfast of champions!!

I was waiting impatiently as the smoking started.

Then, I looked out the window and saw the full-fledged smoking was going on and I could hardly wait. My mouth was watering.

Oh, my! Land's Alive! Deliciousness is mine in only a few moments...

Digging out the buns and condiments...

I like mine a little crispy with some (read: quite a bit) ketchup. Sometimes, I add a thin line of yellow mustard. Other times, I skip the mustard and opt for a ketchup only brat. Pops likes his with ketchup, mustard and horseradish. He likes to torture himself. Bud ALWAYS has a little ketchup and a little mustard and just a sniff of the horseradish! He also prefers his with as little "char" as possible. Branch goes for hers with a little tiny bit of ketchup. Blossom... no bun please! Just slice it up into little wheels and she'll enjoy it on a fork and skip the sauce!

How do you like YOUR brat? If you didn't have brats for breakfast this past Saturday, maybe you should try it this weekend! You still have time to get your grill if your excuse is you didn't have one. You still have time to buy a package or two of Johnsonville's Beer Brats. You still have time to acquire buns and the appropriate condiments. You still have time to join the fun and Enjoy!!

  1. brats are laurens favorite. the kids might have them with ketchup, not the adults. we use mustard. i use a thin line of mustard, tug pretty thick. tug also makes a tin foil holder and wraps up onion with tons of butter. we all add onions to the brats, no horse radish!

we dont do it for breakfast though. we record game day and wake up at a reasonable hour instead.

  2. You know what's funny (to me, anyway)?

I went to World Youth Day in Denver in 1993 and had so many brats (McDonald's catered food to all of the locations) that I still can't eat them. Maybe I just think that I can't eat them. I think their dying moment was when Monsignor and Father brought brats back to our campsite at Cherry Creek State Park as breakfast. Dust, heat, brats, and back to back bodies ... hey, sounds kind of like football season! ;)
