We are having a great time here in Oklahoma! This weekend, we met some "neighbors" that are here for a while... a full-timing family with four kids and a dog in tow! Bud is in "boy heaven" with their three boys - 9, 10 & 12! Branch and Blossom are enamored with their 15 year old daughter, who luckily pays them a little bit of attention!! Bark likes how their yellow lab smells, I think. I am not sure about wet dog smell... but that is one crazy swimming dog! She will swim and swim to get a tennis ball over and over and over. She even will be swimming around and catch a ball, tossed her way. Crazy... amazing! Easily impressed dog owner? I dunno... it was pretty spectacular, though!! But, enough about the dog - what about swimming and where, anyway!!
Yesterday, we all headed over to Lake Carl Blackwell for a bit of fun. Of course the kids all wanted to be wet and in the water, so much for the game I brought to play...
I am aching to know the plan these girls appear to be hatching...
The family that we met had a lovely little kayak - and after watching many of their family members working the craft, Bud wanted to give it a try. So, they cheerfully offered him a try!
Up and in he went and a few instructions about holding the oar...
how to move his feet to steer with the skeg...
and he was OFF!!
Bud appeared to catch on fast and really enjoy himself.
What do you think? At each pass of the others in the water he seemed to be braver and venturing further!
It was good for him and I am thrilled he got to try it out! (Who needs summer camp anyway!?!!)
The girls kept working at swimming while big brother was working on kayaking... I loved this sequence and just HAVE to share!
Goggles On.
Deep Breath. (Pinch Nose, if needed!)
Puff Out Cheeks and...
GO... Go... go...
Uh, UNDER!!!
yes, the surface of the water - get your WHOLE self in for the hokey pokey!!
Or, not.
Just psych mom out so she takes pictures of you going in for the big mermaid dive.
OH, well! Fun anyway and they were wanting a little turn in the kayak, too!
Both girls had a chance to climb inside and be pulled around a bit. No turning them loose alone, yet! I think their smiles say that it doesn't matter how they got around in the kayak so long as they got to have a turn!
Bump enjoyed the lake, too. He took his new "ish pool" down to the shore and cast and reeled in a few times. No worries about his lure... it is a nice looks like everyone else's, let's not pitch a fit, we'll remove the hooks from it style. Swimmers are safe!!
Pops says that maybe fly-fishing will be in his future with all the casting and little reeling!
So long as he gets to hold his own Cars pole, he doesn't mind that nothing comes back in on a hook.
He tries to reel it all in every now and then...
But, Bump just really likes to toss the line out over and over and over!
I enjoyed the breeze, a book and a chair on the lawn and when the other parents joined me we all enjoyed some great visiting time while the kids turned into little prune skinned guppies! We picked up and left our little slice of paradise with this view...
What a GREAT evening!!!
